Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma strongly presented the state government’s position in the Legislative Council on the opening day of its third session, highlighting its focus on development, transparency, clean cities and reliable electricity supply.
Responding to questions from members, Sharma said the government was working to clean up the legacy left by previous administrations while improving urban infrastructure and public services.
On solid waste management in Mainpuri, Sharma said a municipal solid waste treatment plant has been operational since 2012. An order was issued on March 19, 2026, for the disposal of nearly 50,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste. Work has begun after the installation of the required plant and machinery, with around 20 tonnes of solid waste being scientifically processed daily.
Sharma said the government remained committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and that no official or employee found guilty of negligence or irregularities would be spared.
On electricity-related issues in Siddharthnagar, the minister said expenditure on transformers had been incurred according to approved estimates. He reiterated that the government was taking steps to strengthen electricity infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted, quality power supply to consumers.
Sharma said the power system inherited from previous governments had been in poor condition, with inadequate infrastructure and unreliable supply. He added that Uttar Pradesh had now emerged as one of the leading states in power generation, supply and distribution, with the government focused on providing quality electricity and cleaner cities to citizens.
